Heavy Equipment Moving 25,000 lbs

Heavy Equipment Moving Team Moves Starting Gate

The heavy equipment moving team at O’Hare made a visit to the Arlington International Racecourse two weeks ago. No bets were made that day, it was strictly business! The company running the track had contacted O’Hare as they needed assistance transporting a starting gate.

The starting gate had seen better days and needed to be towed to Elgin, IL, where it would be sandblasted and repainted. With a weight of 25,000 lbs and a width of over 12 feet, the starting gate was classified as an oversize load.

Thankfully for the customer, O’Hare’s heavy equipment moving team took care of all the logistics. They applied for a special permit to transport the gate to Elgin. Along with the permit, they received a permitted route that the driver needed to adhere to.

While obtaining permits can seem like a daunting task, the team at O’Hare do it several times a day! With all the right paperwork in place, the team successfully towed the starting gate from Arlington Heights to Elgin.

This wasn’t a race by any means! The team had to drive at 30 miles per hour to comply with the wheel bearings supporting the starting gate. Slowly but surely, the heavy equipment moving team made their way to Elgin.

At the moment, the starting gate is in the last steps of it’s refurbishment. We’ll be headed to Elgin next week to pick it up and bring it back to the racecourse owners!

Fantastic work out there team!

Details of Heavy Equipment Moving Team Moves Starting Gate

O’Hare’s heavy equipment moving team was tasked with moving a starting gate (otherwise known as a starting barrier or starting stalls) from Arlington Heights to Elgin, IL. The permit team with the heavy equipment moving division took the call. They got all the information on the load and went straight to work obtaining the correct permits and route for the trip.

O’Hares heavy equipment moving team departed from O’Hare Towing Service & Semi Truck Heavy Duty Wrecker – Cars, Heavy Duty & Semi Truck Towing, 2424 Wisconsin Ave, Downers Grove, IL 60515, United States. Our heavy wrecker driver took I-355 N to the Euclid Avenue exit from IL-53 N. The heavy tow truck operator then continued on Euclid Avenue for 1.7 miles until he reached the racecourse.

The heavy equipment moving team backed their heavy wrecker towards the starting gate. The tow truck operator took his time ensuring that the gate was secured to the heavy tow truck. With the gate secured, the driver commenced the journey to Elgin, IL.

Due to the permit route and the speed limitations of the bearings, the heavy equipment moving team could not go on the interstate. They had to take smaller roads during their trip to ensure the safety of all motorists and not compromise the flow of traffic on the interstate.

The heavy equipment hauling team arrived in Elgin, IL, and dropped off the starting gate at the designated drop off point.
